Height Scales

A stadiometer is the standard device used to measure standing height accurately. It includes a vertical column, a movable headpiece, and graduated markings in centimeters or inches. Accurate posture and level placement are essential for reliable readings. For infants, a recumbent measuring board called an infantometer is used. Recording units consistently helps avoid confusion across measurements.

Select a scale that balances accuracy, repeatability, and ease of use. Robust sensors, clear displays, and appropriate capacity support reliable measurement. Place the device on hard, level flooring and verify with known weights periodically. Environmental stability and user posture improve consistency. Durability, serviceability, and manufacturer support matter for long-term performance.

A phone cannot function as a true weight scale without external hardware designed to measure force. Built-in sensors are not intended to capture load like a scale's load cell or mechanical beam. Apps that estimate weight using cameras or indirect proxies are not reliable for actual measurements. For accurate results, use a dedicated scale on a hard, level surface under consistent conditions. External accessories may transmit readings to phones, but the weighing occurs in the accessory itself.
