How LifeVac works
LifeVac seals over the nose and mouth with the fitted mask. Pushing the handle down vents air out through the one-way valve, so air is never pushed into the airway toward the obstruction. Pulling the handle up creates suction that draws the obstruction out. Use it after calling 911 and after back blows and abdominal thrusts have not cleared the airway.
Which kit: Home, Travel, or EMS
The Home Kit is the right fit for kitchens, first aid stations, and facility safety cabinets, and it adds a practice mask so people can learn the motion before an emergency. The Travel Kit packs the same device and masks into a yellow zippered case for cars, bags, and carry-on luggage. The EMS Kit is the compact option built to drop into an existing first aid kit or response bag.
Who should have one
Schools and daycares keep LifeVac where children eat and play. Restaurants keep one near the dining room, where choking incidents are most likely. Senior care communities, families with young children, and people who live alone use it as a second-line option when standard rescue is hard to perform or has not worked.
Is LifeVac FDA registered?
LifeVac is authorized by the FDA as a second-line suction anti-choking treatment, with a De Novo classification as a Class II medical device. It is the only suction anti-choking device with that authorization.
Does LifeVac replace CPR or first aid?
No. Call 911 first and start standard choking rescue, back blows and abdominal thrusts. LifeVac is a second-line option for when those steps have not cleared the airway, and it does not replace emergency care.
What ages and sizes does it cover?
Each kit includes an adult mask and a pediatric mask. The pediatric mask is for children who weigh 22 lbs and up, and LifeVac is intended for choking victims at least 1 year of age.
Does the device expire?
The LifeVac device itself does not expire, and it needs no batteries or charging. The mask manufacturer recommends replacing the masks every 2 to 3 years, or by the expiration date on the packaging, and inspecting them periodically.
What happens after it is used in a save?
LifeVac can be used more than once during the same emergency. After a use, report it through the Report LifeVac Usage form on the LifeVac site and LifeVac replaces the unit free of charge.

How does the LifeVac device function as a non-invasive tool for clearing a loved one’s airway during a home choking emergency?
The LifeVac is a non-invasive, portable suction device designed to quickly and safely clear an obstructed airway when standard choking protocols fail. It works by creating a powerful one-way valve suction that pulls the obstruction upward without pushing it further into the victim's throat. This "answer-first" design ensures that even a panicked caregiver can act decisively to save a life in seconds. The device is purely manual, meaning you never have to worry about batteries or power outlets during a critical moment. It serves as an essential secondary safety net for homes where traditional abdominal thrusts might be difficult or impossible to perform. Having this tool in your kitchen provides a professional level of protection that fits seamlessly into your family’s daily life.
-
Is this airway clearance device safe for use on all family members, including small children, the elderly, and those with physical disabilities?
Yes, the LifeVac is designed to be a universal life-saving tool that is safe for use on adults, the elderly, and children weighing over 22 pounds. Each residential kit includes multiple mask sizes—typically an adult and a pediatric mask—to ensure a tight seal is achieved regardless of the person’s facial structure. This versatility makes it an ideal solution for multi-generational households where both toddlers and seniors may be at a higher risk of choking. Because the device is non-invasive, there is no risk of breaking ribs or causing internal trauma, which is a significant concern for fragile family members. It is also a vital resource for individuals with disabilities who may not be able to stand or lean forward for traditional maneuvers. This inclusive design ensures that every member of your household is covered by a single, high-authority safety solution.
-
What is the expected "shelf life" or long-term value of a LifeVac kit when kept in a standard residential kitchen or first-aid station?
A LifeVac kit offers exceptional long-term value for homeowners because the core suction unit itself never expires and requires no electricity to function. While the masks should be inspected periodically for a proper fit, the high-durability materials are built to last for years in a standard home environment. This makes the Total Cost of Ownership incredibly low, as you are essentially making a one-time investment in a permanent piece of home safety equipment. We even offer a free replacement program if you ever have to use your device in a documented choking emergency. Knowing that your life-saving tool is always ready without recurring subscription fees provides immense peace of mind. It is a one-and-done purchase that significantly increases your home’s emergency preparedness for a lifetime.
-
How easy is it for a family caregiver with no formal medical training to successfully operate the device in a high-stress situation?
Operating the LifeVac is designed to be incredibly intuitive, requiring only three simple steps—place, push, and pull—that any caregiver can master in minutes. The device is engineered to work with the natural physics of suction, so you don't need significant physical strength or medical expertise to be effective. We provide clear, visual instructions and a practice mask so every family member can feel confident in the process before an emergency ever occurs. During a high-stress event, the "Answer-First" simplicity of the device helps overcome the freezing effect often caused by panic. Many success stories come from parents and grandparents who had only watched a short video before successfully clearing a child’s airway. This ease of use turns a terrifying situation into a manageable, life-saving moment for any homeowner.

Does the LifeVac device require any ongoing maintenance, replacement parts, or specialized storage to remain ready for a household emergency?
The LifeVac device is virtually maintenance-free and only requires that the masks be replaced if the medical-grade plastic shows signs of wear or if the device is used in an emergency. You should store your kit in an easily accessible location, such as a kitchen pantry or near the dining table, where choking risks are most prevalent. There are no complicated calibration protocols or battery checks required, ensuring the device is "grab-and-go" ready at all times. The unit’s compact design allows it to fit into standard first-aid cabinets or travel bags for family vacations. Periodically checking the seal on the masks is the only "technical" task a homeowner needs to perform to maintain peak readiness. This low-maintenance profile makes it the perfect "set it and forget it" safety asset for busy family households.
