The Impulse iQ Adjusting Instrument, in silver finish, is a hand-held electromechanical chiropractic adjusting instrument from Neuromechanical Innovations. This is the original Impulse iQ model. Per the manufacturer Instructions for Use and its FDA 510(k) summary (K080261), the Impulse iQ has three force settings, a preload-control indicator light that changes on achieving proper preload, and an internal accelerometer that provides closed-loop feedback controlling the thrust pulse rate. It is intended for use by a licensed health care professional only, for external use only.
The electronic trigger delivers a single thrust on a short pull, and holding the trigger initiates the rapid (multiple) thrust mode. Interchangeable styluses — a single stylus and cervical and lumbar dual styluses with silicone tips — let the clinician match the contact to the area being adjusted, and a 10 ft power cord supports use at the treatment table. Total peak force output is also dependent on operator preload, so consistent preload technique matters for repeatable delivery.
Per the manufacturer published indications for use, the Impulse iQ Adjusting Instrument is intended for chiropractic adjustment, mobilization, or manipulation of the musculoskeletal joints of the spine and/or extremities, or for soft-tissue musculoskeletal mobilization by a licensed health care professional only.
