The Lafayette Instrument MOART Reaction and Movement Time Panel with PsymCon Control is the Multi-Operational Apparatus for Reaction Time (MOART), Model 35600, an integrated device for the study of cognitive processing and reaction time measurement. Lafayette describes ergonomically placed touch-sensitive keypads for ultra-accurate reaction times with no key travel errors, tricolor stimulus lights and dual tone generation for versatility in stimulus presentation. Combined with the PsymCon control (Model 35500), the system provides six adaptable tests for motor behavior and psychomotor research and teaching laboratories; PsymSoft software (Model 35800) is an alternative control interface.
From the main menu, examiners can run Simple Reaction Time, Choice Reaction Time, Simple Reaction/Movement, Choice Reaction/Movement, Simple Tap Test and Complex Tap Test protocols, including Go/No Go paradigms, with adjustable stimulus, reaction method, cue type, cue length, error types, response time out and random or fixed presentation. Responses are classified as early, no response, incorrect or inaccurate, and the panel supports interference tapping, in which subjects perform a reaction time task while executing a simultaneous tapping task to study executive functioning.
Per Lafayette Instrument / Campden Instruments, MOART is used for simple reaction time tasks such as Go/No Go tasks for the study of higher centers of the brain, more complex discriminate reaction time tasks to study cognitive processing, and interference tapping tasks to study executive functioning. Optional accessories documented for the panel include the Single Touch Key with Stimulus (Model 35602) and Foot Switch Response Pads (Model 35603).
