Both words refer to human-shaped models, but their uses differ. Mannequin (with a “q”) is used in fashion and retail to display clothing and accessories. Manikin (with a “k”) refers to medical or scientific models used for training, such as CPR manikins or surgical simulators. While they look similar, manikins are designed for functionality and realism in healthcare education, whereas mannequins prioritize aesthetics for product display.

The cost of CPR manikins varies widely based on features and fidelity. Basic models for community training can start around $40–$200, while mid-range manikins with feedback systems typically cost $500–$2,000. Advanced high-fidelity manikins used in professional healthcare training can exceed $10,000 and may include features like airway management and real-time data tracking. Cleaning CPR manikin faces is essential for hygiene and equipment longevity. After each use, wipe the face, mouth, and nose area with disinfectant wipes containing at least 70% isopropyl alcohol, leaving surfaces wet for 30 seconds before drying. For deep cleaning after a class, disassemble the face parts and soak them in warm soapy water or a diluted bleach solution (10:1 water-to-bleach ratio) for 20 minutes, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Always replace disposable parts like face shields or lung bags between students to prevent cross-contamination.
